Get to Know Us

We have been catalyzing change in people’s lives for over 50 years. What started as a small Mennonite church led by Leslie Francisco II and his wife Naomi, has become a global ministry that has impacted thousands of lives worldwide. Men and women, just like you have experienced true freedom that has changed the trajectory of their future through principled, biblically-based truth in Jesus Christ.

Our History

Welcome Home

We are a home for the seekers, the ones who are committed to progress more than the unattainable perfection. We hate religion, love Jesus, and love others… no strings, no gimmicks. Regardless of how your history has been sculpted, your future is still clay in the Potter’s hands. Let us partner with you to build the future God has for you.

Vision Statement

That the world would experience God’s love through us from generation to generation.

Mission Statement

We are legacy driven and passionate in our pursuit of embodying love, embracing discipleship and empowering generations.

Core Values

C3 Is Me!

Church is not the building, we are the church, C3 is the church… C3 is me! We have all been given the greatest opportunity imaginable, to live an abundant life and give out of our overflow. We desire to share the hope that is found in Christ, and we proudly proclaim that we are unapologetic followers of Christ. We are not the keepers of religion. Religion relies on conditions but Christ’s perfect love and compassion are unconditional.

We are legacy makers and curse breakers.

Legacy, by societal standards, has a reputation of monetary inheritance and tangible gain; but at C3 we see legacy through an eternal lens and value the intangibles of its fruit – faith, generosity, joy, gratitude – these are the values that break cycles that have bound generations. We are committed to ending the bad and beginning the great, to leave a mark that inspires families, communities, and the world.

Family is not perfect, but it must always be prioritized.

We strongly believe that our best form of witness is modeled in our closest relationships. We aim to not only be known for our legacy in the world, but to love, influence, and inspire our family and ‘framily’ first and foremost.

We are better together.

Nothing is more fun than serving God with people you love. We believe we can accomplish infinitely more together than apart. Community is essential!

Generosity is an opportunity to prosper.

God blesses us continuously, and we are committed to blessing God’s church and God’s people, not only with tangible things, but with our skills, finances, gifts and acts of service.

1957

Leslie Walker Francisco II was introduced to Calvary Mennonite Church in Newport News, VA. As a little boy in the hills of Avery County, NC, he attended a Mennonite Brethren church, so when he exited his military career and came upon a Mennonite church in Virginia, he felt comfortable reconnecting with his Mennonite foundation.

1971

Leslie Francisco II assumed senior leadership as the pastor of Calvary Mennonite Church, with his wife Naomi faithfully by his side every step of the way.

1971-1980

Leslie II had a strong evangelistic call on his life which caused him to look beyond the four walls of the local church. Along with his sons, Leslie III, Steven, and Myron, he began leading street and tent revivals, even going door to door to invite families to hear the good news.

1981

With a strong evangelistic reach spreading throughout the city, the desire to reach neighboring cities grew. The founder’s vision was to always build a church in Hampton. Due to his unwavering faith and the support of the community at-large, his vision would soon come into fruition. The land was purchased for the future Hampton church site.

1985

Calvary Community Church held its first service in Hampton, VA.

1985-1987

The founder asked his oldest son, Leslie Francisco III to serve as interim pastor at the Newport News location while awaiting a replacement. It soon became evident that Leslie III would serve as the permanent replacement, and, as a result, was ordained as pastor of the Newport News, VA congregation.

1988

The Newport News and Hampton congregations merged and became one under the banner of Calvary Community Church, with Leslie III as senior pastor.

1991

Leslie III and his wife Natalie Francisco launched the first African American owned and operated Christian school on the peninsula, Calvary Christian Academy. As loving parents of three daughters, Nicole, Lesley, and Lauren, they had a strong desire to build a school they would want their girls to attend.

1992

Calvary Community Church Founder Leslie Francisco II passed away. In his honor, an educational wing was built to accommodate the school’s growth.

1993-1997

Exponential growth occurred during this time. Radio and television broadcasts, the formation of Calvary Bible College, and global outreach throughout Ghana, South Africa & Jamaica expanded the church’s reach. During this period of expansion, the church relocated to a larger 25,000 sq. ft. campus in the city of Hampton.

2000-2005

As the imprint of the church continued to spread, the church campus expanded an additional 25,000 sq. ft. to accommodate growth. Several ministries were planted throughout the U.S. and the African continent. Local and global community service projects became such a priority that the vast majority of both youth and young adults were given extensive opportunities to serve.

2010

Calvary Community Church was rebranded as “C3 Hampton”. In that same year, Bishop L.W. Francisco III & Dr. Natalie A. Francisco ordained their middle daughter, Lesley Francisco as youth pastor.

2011-2014

As youth pastor, Lesley Francisco launched E.P.I.C. (Experiencing Power in Christ), a youth ministry that encouraged kids and teens to be unashamed in their beliefs. During this time, a large movement formed where large numbers of youth would gather to take the EPIC plunge, publicly getting baptized amongst their peers.

2017

Pastor Lesley Francisco McClendon and Pastor Caleb McClendon were installed as assistant pastors of C3 Hampton.

February 2020

C3 Hampton’s co-founder, Naomi R. Francisco passed away and the Naomi Francisco Missions Fund was named in her honor with all proceeds directly benefiting outreach programs in South Africa.

March 2020

The global pandemic shifted C3 Hampton from a primarily brick and mortar church to an intentional hybrid ministry.

May 2020

Dr. Lesley Francisco McClendon assumed senior leadership of C3 Hampton.

June-December 2020

The effects of the global pandemic reignited the church’s passion for evangelism and outreach beyond the four walls. The ‘C3 is me’ campaign was birthed, where every week a new initiative was introduced to members and partners, giving them the opportunity to serve those in need.

September 2021

Dr. Lesley Francisco McClendon was officially installed as senior pastor, with the support of her husband, Pastor Caleb L. McClendon, serving alongside as Assistant Pastor.
